Chess Club K-1 Fall 2018

Grades K-1 Fridays 2:25 - 3:25 Library

Chess is part of a healthy lifestyle, a fun social activity, and the most popular board game in history! Playing chess improves memory, concentration, IQ, math skills, reading skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Students learn chess curriculum designed to help them progress from beginners to experienced players at their own pace over many years. Each class includes puzzles, challenges, and one-on-one play. All are welcome!  No prior chess experience is necessary. Students have the option to participate in chess tournaments throughout the school year, both individually or as part of the B.F. Day Chess Team! Chess Coach Ray sends weekly emails to parents with club news. See Orangutan Chess Academy at for more enrichment details.

Chess Club K-1 students are taught and released after 60 minutes to accommodate shorter attention spans. Kindergarteners are required to have an adult (parent or other adult) attend chess club with them at all times in order to help them focus and play. First graders do not require an adult, but adults are welcome to participate. Chess Club K-1 parents should pack snacks for their hungry student(s) and provide a home chess set for student practice.
