Volunteer Opportunities

Please be sure to complete the SPS Volunteer process first before reaching out about volunteering: https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/volunteer/volunteer-application-process/

Please see also our B.F. Day Wishlist

Small student groups

Would you like to come and volunteer on campus? Would you like to work with a small group of students? B.F. Day teachers welcome parent volunteers into their classrooms for small group support. Volunteers need to complete the volunteer orientation through the district and provide proof of vaccination. If interested, please contact your child’s teacher directly and notify the front office of when you intend to volunteer.

Art Room

Are you artsy (or do you wish you were MORE artsy??)... Make your artistic dreams come true by volunteering in the B.F. Day art room. An extra set up of hands helping with project set-up and clean-up once a week would be soooo helpful.
Please reach out to Ms. Pierce, our fabulous art teacher, directly for details, at jmpierce@seattleschools.org.

Parent volunteers are greatly needed to help clean tables, deliver the food cart, and help with getting students back to class. You can join a class for a lunch period of 20 minutes or longer. We have 4 lunches per day. Please Sign up. Completed vaccines and a daily attestation will be needed to volunteer. Thank you!

Library volunteers are needed to add a little love to our library. Please contact Ms. Siler, tcsiler1@seattleschools.org if you can volunteer.

Global Reading Challenge

Calling all parents! Love reading? Love libraries? Love kids? Love B.F. Day? (Who doesn't?). The Global Reading Challenge approaches and we need volunteers! If you don't know of it, the GRC is a reading incentive program for all Seattle Public Schools hosted yearly by the Seattle Public Library. Eight very worthy books are selected, 4 th & 5 th grade students form teams, read, then participate in virtual trivia challenges! Teams meet during selected school lunchtimes, discuss the books, and quiz each other on details. The books are available to check out from the library, or as an e-book from your library account. We also have exciting virtual author events November through January! What we do need, aside from kids who are hungry for reading, are some volunteers to help at the lunchtime meetings to interact with the kiddos, help quiz their knowledge of the books, and come up with some practice questions. It's a fun, easy, and rewarding gig, and you have the chance to get to know some of the other amazing students in our school. Please let us know if you can help! Joe Eike, jo.fuller@gmail.com or Tamara Siler, tcsiler1@seattleschools.org

Recess monitor volunteers are also welcome.
