What's New at BF Day Elementary School

Direct Drive 2018:  Money is fine, but Participation is what matters!

We're striving for 75% family participation in the direct drive. You can give $10, $5, $1. We even recevied an envelope with $12 in it yesterday.  This contribution is even more meaningful as it is what the family could give. And we are ETERNALLY GRATEFUL.

Turn in those Golden envelopes with your couch change. Turn in those Golden envelopes with money from the Tooth Fairy. We just want to know that you're in to support the BF Day kids.

Let's get to 75%, Families!

Family School does Family Dinner

On February 7th, an amazing group of volunteers led by Michal Inspektor planned, prepped, and cooked a spaghetti family dinner for 270 people!

From Michal: It was a joy having dinner with about 270 of our school friends! Thank you to everyone who helped create our shared memories. From the kids decorating the walls with their art, to Julie Bragg infusing our halls with the delicious smell of home cooking, you all created a sense of community and belonging. This night would not have headbeen possible without you. Kim Iannotti, Julie Bragg, Tania Schriwer, Sarah Sullivan ThompsonMonica SpainStephanie SheltonTanya Miller Boyce, CJ Wong, Stanley JaskotJennifer Holeman Gaspar and all the many, many wonderful volunteers. You are BF Day!

This is what it means to be part of the Family School.

The Playground is OPEN!

The new Upper Playground is inspected & open for play!
Back in July of last year, B.F. Day parents, Vinita Sidhu & Kristin Anderson applied for two grants: one from Tableau and one from the Department of Neighborhoods.  Once Vinita heard that the grant requests were going to be approved, she reached out to the B.F. Day community for help.  Thank you, again, to all who made this playground go from an idea to a reality.  We love that the children were included in the planning process.  We love that families, staff & members of the community got to work together during the work parties.  And the children love their new play structures.  This project is a great example of what it means to be a "Family School."

Meet your 2017-18 PTSA Board - there's room for you!

We all meet on the first Monday of every month at 6:00pm (NOTE: new time for 2017-2018).  There's usually hummus and lots of good chat about what is best for school. Hope to see you?

We're getting a new Uppers Playground!

After more than a year of planning and gathering financial support, the Playground Team will be supervising the installation of the new playground on August 19th and August 26th.  Do you want to help? Of course you do!

We need help on Saturday, August 19th between 10-4. There are mutliple shifts, so sign up when you can.  If you've ever desired to build a playground, your day is August 26th! The manufacturer installation supervisors will be there to help volunteers actually make the new playground. EXCITING!

Please visit our Sign Up Genius page for more information.

Kindergarten Jump start - August 21st @ 9am

Any incoming kindergarteners are welcome to join for Jump Start from 9am -12 pm. This is a great way for the kids new to elementary school to get the feel for what it's like during the day, where their classrooms may be, and just get to know B.F. Day!  Any questions - email or call Carrie Bauer at cbauer@seattleschools.org or 206-

Please come and celebrate with us on May 20th between 12-5 pm for a free and public carnival.

BF Day will be hosting a lovely and fun afternoon celebrating this historic milestone. Things that will be happening include:

  • carnival games (cake walk, face painting, wet sponge toss, are you smarter than a 5th grader?...FUN)
  • drama
  • food trucks
  • live music
  • history tours
  • art walks
  • Powerhouse is open (Thank you, Fremont Arts Council)
  • special guests and dignitaries

We also need volunteers to help make this thing extra awesome.  Come and sign up for a 1.5 hour spot - or even the whole day using this Sign up Genius link.

With deep gratitude to our sponsors: The Hallows Church, Fremont Abbey, Theo's Chocolate, Fred Meyer, PCC and Eldridge Gravy for supporting this historic milestone.

Come and also give feedback to the Playground committee on the new Uppers playground!

What do YOU want to see in the new BF Day Uppers Playground? Magnificent monkey bars? Swirly slides?

The Playground committee will be at the Carnival this Saturday to receive community and school input. Proposed playground layouts from three vendors will be on display - stop by to tell us what you think! Now is your chance to have input into the new design and to share what you can't live without. Layouts will also be on display in the school for one week after the Carnival. The winning design will be finalized in June. This is also your chance to get on the mailing list to stay up-to-date and find out about construction volunteer opportunities later this summer.

See you Saturday!
