How to Apply for In School Volunteering

Seattle Public Schools has revamped their application process to make approvals vastly faster. You no longer have to wait weeks to hear back after submitting your application.

  • No Invitation Needed: You no longer need staff to send you a sign-up link. Anyone can apply directly online.
  • Simplified Tiers: The old Category A, B, and C system has been replaced with two clear tiers:
    • Tier 1 (Supervised): Requires a WA State background check. Covers classroom help, day field trips, and school events where staff are present.
    • Tier 2 (Unsupervised): Requires a national background check. Needed for independent roles like overnight field trip chaperones.
  • Streamlined Processing: As soon as your background check clears and requirements are met, local staff can approve you online immediately.

Ready to sign up?

Submit your application directly on the SPS Volunteer Page. For all other questions, please contact Ms. Brenna in the front office at bckamppi@seattleschools.org.
